Affiliates across India observes 10th December 2011 Human Rights Day as Unorganised Workers
    Demands Day:

National Centre for Labour (NCL) made a Resolution in its Bangalore Meeting on 11th Nov. 2011, to observe 10th Dec 2011. Human Rights Day as Demands Day of the Unorganised Workers in India. This resolution was made to pressurize the Govt. of India as well the State Governments to take appropriate action immediately to implement the “Unorganised Workers Social Security Act 2008” without further delay. Its more than 2 years since the above Act became the Law and enforceable, paving way for providing Social Security and Labour Welfare for the 470 million unorganized toiling masses in this country. But unfortunately, not much had taken place during these years. Many critical issues for effective implementation has not been addressed including ‘Finance”, ‘Framing Schemes’, ‘Constitution of Welfare Boards at State Levels etc.

NCL, as an exclusive labour organization for the Unorganised Workers in India, thought not to allow this Act to fade away. Having experienced the Government’s attitude interms of implementation of “The Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act 1996”., Fifteen years have passed by and still the Construction workers in this country are denied of justice! There are some states which have not constituted “Construction Workers Welfare Board” and provided Social Security and labour welfare benefits.

To avert this kind of tragedy to the “Unorganised Workers Social Security Act 2008” it was decided to observe the Human Rights Day December 10th as Demands Day of the Unorganised Workers, demanding immediate implementation of the Act by taking appropriate steps by the Govt. of India and respective State Governments.

By submitting Memorandums addressed to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Union Labour Minister, Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Shri. Rahul Gandhi as well the Hon’ble Governor, Chief Minister and Labour Minister in their respective states.
